Louisiana Words Live: Halloween (Meet the Cast)

Louisiana Words Summer 2022 Finale!

PRO-LIFE (Louis Toliver Jr - Swartz, LA)

PRO-LIFE is being concerned with life from BIRTH TO DEATH. You can’t be a racist if you’re PRO-LIFE. Racists don’t care about children of color. You can’t be homophobic if you’re PRO-LIFE. Homophobes don’t care about children that are born a different sexuality. You can’t be a classist if you’re PRO-LIFE. Classists don’t care about the children in poverty. Let’s not forget those who protect the lives of guns and not the lives of children. That is VERY NOT PRO-LIFE.   Everyone’s tombstone has a dash between their BIRTH and DEATH. I think we need to make sure everyone is making the best of their dash. Our children are in need of healthcare. Our children are in need of education. Our children in are need of nurturing that teaches them about love. All the necessary tools to build a happy life. Being PRO-LIFE isn’t about controlling anyone’s body. Being PRO-LIFE is about maturely taking care of other lives in this world.   That’s what being PRO-LIFE is all about.

These Tears of Mine (Joseph Michael Benoit - Iowa, LA)

the tears that I cry they do not lie no more than I would when I look you in the eye the tears that you see are so much a part of me that when you part from me the well will fill, as if a sea these tears of mine are meant as a sign to be shed for all as a spark of the Divine

Branded (Annette Redmond Walters - Lafayette, LA)

Bleak to the bone Seek me alone Stuck against the tide Crush up my life Flush out the strife Start with a dream Smart and extreme Stir up the fight Purr into flight Blown off my streak Thrown from the peak End in a prayer Blend with the rare Branded by stains Stranded and chains Aflame with resent A name with no glint

In Spite of You (Madison Elizabeth Holland - Lafayette, LA)

Since we've been apart I haven't cried for you I did all my crying when I was trapped in your web Unseen, hidden, mocked, ignored, belittled Pain held no sway over you unless it was your own My tears were weightless yet you used yours like bullets Wounding, conquering, until I was small and tucked away Yet even after becoming so quiet, somehow I could offend you still By my very existence, it seemed Loving a whirlwind took its toll But here I stand, tall and peaceful, happy, content In spite of it all In spite of you
