Cracked (Madison Elizabeth Holland - Lafayette, LA)

I am the only one who can break me

I stand back up every time

With my blood on my hands, my lips, my teeth

Every time I stand back up it's harder to bend my knees than it was the time before

My scabs crack and peel with the effort of moving

Flaky copper flavored debris drifts and floats away from my body

I leave pieces of myself all around me as I walk away

The hole my soul made while leaving my body slowly closes up

While behind me bloody footprints stretch for decades
