How to Settle a Restless Soul (Rachel Jackson [Perry]-Lafayette, LA)

"How to Settle a Restless Soul"

First:

You must submit
To your need to wander.

Go out.
Go far.
See castles.
Meet gypsies/hobos.
Admire landscapes.
Sleep on corners.
Walk a foreign shore.
Eat a foreign fruit.
Experience enchantment.
Experience discomfort.

When your soul has been shaken up enough
Inside this snow globe called life
Set the snow globe down for a while
And watch it all swirl towards the bottom.

Second:

Once you've wondered around a bit
Go back home.

Adopt a dog.
Sit on the porch.
Plant a garden.
Find a long-term lover.

Fill the garden with vegetables you could eat everyday,
And make the lover a homegrown one from some local farm.

Leave the snow globe on the table for a while
And notice that without all those specks flying around
The little village inside appears quite agreeable.

When I am tired of the tears, tears that roll non-stop over my cheeks. When I don't want to hurt the ones that I love the most. When it seems like those who are supposed to love me don't get who I am. When no one has any idea of the pain my smile hides. When I am worried about being forever labeled by others. When I am the one that everyone counts on for strength. When I never show any weak…
